External Calibration

The external calibration uses a calibration curve with increasing levels of analyte. The quantitation is done by linear regression.

Advantage

This method is quick and easy, but might not give the accurate result.

Disadvantages

Due to the lack of internal standards, losses during sample preparation are not corrected and due to the lack of matrix in the calibration curves, no matrix effects during the ionization are compensated.
